The Royal Library in Copenhagen, one of the most significant architectural landmarks along the city waterfront.

It’s the largest library in the Nordic countries and it houses the National Library of Denmark and the Library of the University of Copenhagen: you can find more than 5 million of books inside.

It is considered one of Copenaghen’s architectural gems.

The old building site was designed by Hans Jorgen Holm in 1906.

90 Years later, Savema contributed to the extension of the royal library through the black granite exterior cladding, each stone we provided weighed about 75 Kgs.

Nowdays the library is nicknamed “Black Diamond” thanks to its clean-cut lines and glittering polished black surfaces.

The lines define pure volumes that synthesize a modern architecture capable to dialogue with the past without the need to imitate it.
