The Miami Performing Art roots are based in an Art Deco building built in 1928, inserted in the US National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
The Arts centre is partially built on a site of a former Sears department store, of which the only surviving part is the seven-story tower, designed as the store’s grand entrance.
Architect Cesar Pelli decided to incorporate the tower, one of the historical monuments and symbols of Miami, into the project and to use a material for the cladding of the façade that called to mind Miami sand shades at sunset, in order to recall the typical colours of the landscape on which this building stands.
With this goal in mind we searched for the most suitable material that turned out to be Sardinian Beige, precisely for its chromatic characteristics that really do recall Miami’s coastline, perfectly blending in the landscape and architecture.
