The Central Bank of Kuwait headquarters building symbolizes the nation’s economic power in the 21st century.
The bank is characterised by a triangular, truncated pyramid tower that is intersected by a podium containing reception and banking halls, conference facilities, dining and banquet rooms, and a museum.
The two stone walls of the southern, city-facing tower reduce energy consumption by functioning as a heat sink to absorb the harsh Kuwaiti sun during the day and use the stored heat to keep away the cold at night.
For the upper part of the tower, Savema opted for the use of onyx in order to achieve translucency through thin thickness. The purpose of the project was that to create a 3D backlit effect to offer a breath-taking panoramic view across the Arabian Gulf. At night, the top of the building glows like a beacon across the night sky.
